ALUMNI NEWS - 1950s
Reggie Thomas celebrated his 78 th birthday in January of this year. As part of the celebration he organized a team of seven evangelists who traveled to India and preached evangelistic meetings that resulted in 5,026 souls baptized into Christ. Reggie continues to preach regularly and to lead the White Fields Overseas Evangelism ministry of which he is the Director.
Doug Smith ('51) was called to be with the Lord he loved and served on Sunday, October 1, 2006. His life of ministry began as the part-time minister at Mt. Washington when he was a junior at CBS. He continued his ministry there until 1955 when he went to the North Seventh Street Church of Christ in Hamilton, Ohio where he remained until 1976. Many were brought to the Lord during his 21 years there. In one revival led by Reggie Thomas, also in the class of '51, they had over 120 additions. His next ministry was with the University Christian Church in Manhattan, Kansas. In 1981 he began working with the Edward Jones Company and also preaching for the Woodlawn Christian Church in Denison, Texas. Upon retirement in 1995, he moved to Mason, Ohio and became active at Lakota Christian. He was a founding member of the board that established Mt. Healthy Christian Home and Mason Christian Village and was inducted into the CBA's Hall of Fame. While serving as President of the CCU Alumni Association he led in raising funds for construction of Alumni Hall and right up until his death continued to raise funds and be a loyal and active supporter of his beloved alma mater. He is survived by his wife, Lois ('51), son Robin ('75), daughter Heather ('78) Smith, three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jason ('93) and Sara ('92) Jones are the proud to announce the birth of their first child, Jackson Thomas Jones, born April 18, 2006. The proud grandparents are Tom ('51, '55) and Ruth ('68) Friskney.
Reggie Thomas
observed his 60th anniversary of full-time preaching. On the weekend of the anniversary, he preached a revival at Lockland Christian Church in Cincinnati , OH . He has served as full-time minister with the following churches: First Christian of North Miami, OK; Church of Christ in Sugar Tree Ridge , OH ; Christian Church in Higginsport , OH ; Catlin (IL) Church of Christ ; East Point (GA) Christian Church; and Hickory Valley Christian Church in Chattanooga , TN. In 1966, Reggie dedicated his life to overseas evangelism and has done missionary work in 80 different nations. He is founder and director of White Fields Overseas Evangelism, and he continues in the full-time ministry with that parachurch organization based in Joplin , MO. He has written two books, My Favorite Revival Sermons and My Favorite Missionary Sermons . Reggie and his wife, Esther, are members at the Villa Heights Christian Church in Joplin . Four of their children are in full-time ministry and two of their grandchildren are preparing to be missionaries.

Eleanor B. Sapp ('52) passed away at her residence in Tennessee on February 21, 2007. She was born in Illinois and lived most of her life in Long Island, New York. Eleanor was a retired educator and is survived by four sons, Leland, David, Daniel, James, who is an Assistant Professor of Counseling/Psychology at Kentucky Christian University, 2 sisters, Zola Brown and Mae Brown, a brother, Orville and 9 grandchildren.
Doris (Alsop) Burks (Att'd '49-'52) passed on to her next life on March 9th, 2007, at the age of 83. She was the beloved wife of the late Thompson Burks ('45) who taught at CCU for many years. Survivors include her daughter Ann Woods, two grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
Bob Shannon will be the guest preacher on March 26 at First Christian Church in Largo, FL in celebration of her 50 th anniversary. Bob ministered there from 1966 to 1984.
Ernie ('52) and Neva ('51) Faber would like to thank all those who helped them after their house fire last May. Ray Schuh ('54 and '58), who had a similar experience, was especially helpful. Thanks to the help of friends, fellow Christians, family and the insurance company, they have moved into their new modular home in the same location. They are 15 miles north of I-80 on US 169 in Iowa . Friends driving by are encouraged to stop and visit. (See photos below)

Dan Gault retired from a 3 year ministry at the Welcome Church of Christ, Killbuck , Ohio on March 26. He has been preaching 55 years and just celebrated his 59th year of preaching his first sermon at the Rocky Fork Church of Christ, Newark, Ohio . Dan and his wife, Iva Belle (Underwood) will enjoy retirement in their old log house with their girls and grandchildren close by. Muriel (Paeplow Dusenberry) Perry, (Att'd '53-'56) passed away in Richmond, Virginia on March 2, 2007. She was born in Toledo and was 72 at the time of her death. She married C. Robert Perry in 1983. She is survived by her husband, Bob; daughter, Robin Cook and her husband; her sons Rick Dusenberry; Robert C. Perry and is wife; Tim Perry and his family and Chris Perry and his family and her sister by marriage, Elinor Sutphin. Her only brother, William Paeplow ('55) of South Bend preceded her in death. William's wife Janice was a '54 CCU graduate.
Colleen Snyder writes a column every three weeks for the Times called, "From the Parsonage". The paper goes into approximately 85,000 homes. She also writes a monthly column for the Restoration Herald.
Howard and Lovell Mountcastle accepted the call to minister with the First Christian Church in Caruthersville, Missouri. They began their ministry in December of 2006.
Bill Dawson ('55) age 77, husband of Eulalee (nee Busz) ('50), passed away on May 28, 2006. He was the loving father of Martha Owens, Amy Bucher, Todd Joel and Adam Dawson and the cherished grandfather of nine grandchildren. Services were held in Williamsburg, Ohio.
David ('58) and Eva (Att'd '55) Grubbs celebrated their 50 th wedding anniversary on August 31 st , 2006. Their four children, Andrew (Att'd '74), Peter (Att'd '77), Joel (Att'd '78) and Miriam (Att'd '82) along with their spouses and eleven grand children helped them enjoy the occasion. An Open House was held mid-August. David plans to retire by the end of 2006 after serving as Executive Minister at Parkside Christian Church in Cincinnati since 2002.
David and Eva Grubbs were inducted into the Senior Adult Hall of Fame by Christian Benevolent Association in Mason, Ohio in September, 2006.
F. David ('59) and Shelva ('59) Miller celebrated their 50 th Wedding Anniversary on March 31, 2007. After ministering for 35 years in New York they returned to Shelva's home in Bergholz, Ohio. David is in his 13 th year of ministering to the church there.
