Alan ('60) and Pat LaRue ('56) are beginning their 15 th year at the First Christian Church, Salem, IL. They began on April 19, 1992. Alan is the preaching minister and Pat works as a counselor at the church.
Larry Settle retired from his ministry of 38 years at Pleasant View Church of Christ in Cassopolis, MI. His wife, Joyce, also of the class of ’61, served along side him in various capacities as choir director, pianist, organist and Sunday School teacher. A retirement party and open house was held Oct. 15. The Settles may be stepping down but they're not going anywhere. They'll remain with the church, lending their support to the new minister. His name is Jeff Oliver (’81) and he's married to the Settles' daughter, Dawn.
Joyce Munn retired from teaching after 39 years – most of them in public schools. She is still involved in public schools by serving on the National Board of Christian Educators Association International. They strive to help Christian teachers in public schools, and any others, to know how they can be faithful witnesses for our Lord. Sylvia (Cook) Bright retired from teaching Exceptional Student Education at Harmony High School in Osceola Country, Florida, in 2006. She continues to teach part time at Florida Christian College, and she owns and operates Eagle Landscape Nursery, a plant growing operation. Sylvia is the widow of John R. Bright ('66).
Thomas Richard Hoard ('65) went to be with the Lord for whom he ministered on March 9, 2007 at the age of 80. He was born in Elsmere, Kentucky, and was a World War II U.S. Navy Veteran. He is survived by his wife, Betty; son Tim; daughter, Laurie Hoard Snow, step-daughter Carla Reuben; step-son, John McGuire and 3 grandchildren. Services were held at LifeSpring Christian Church in Cincinnati.
Ernest L. Barrett ('65) passed from this life to be with the Lord on March 6, 2006 at Anderson Mercy Hospital in Cincinnati. Tom Claibourne ('79,'88) and David Shelton ('60) conducted the memorial service in Seaman, Ohio. Ernest held ministries in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, West Virginia and Tennessee. For the last eight years he ministered with the Seamon, Ohio Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Pat, three sons and a daughter and eight grandchildren.
John M. Carter, Jr. retired on January 1, 2006 from the consulting firm of Brakeley Briscoe Inc. following 30 years with the company. John and his wife Sharon have six children plus fifteen grandchildren and reside in Anaheim, CA.
On Dec. 25, Ned Noble will begin his 20th year of ministry with the Cleves (OH) Church of Christ and his 38th year in the ministry.
After living and ministering in northern Illinois for 31 years, David ('68, '73) and Peggy (Parker) ('68) Morley have moved to Oklahoma. David began a ministry in February with the First Christian Church of Sallisaw.
Jason ('93) and Sara ('92) Jones are the proud to announce the birth of their first child, Jackson Thomas Jones, born April 18, 2006 . The proud grandparents are Tom ('51, '55) and Ruth ('68) Friskney.
