NEVER FORGET YOU ARE A SERVANT
After checking my bags at the Greater Cincinnati International Airport (which is actually in Kentucky ) I went over to the local WH Smith store to see if there was any reading material worth picking up for my flight. It stood out to me like a beacon of light, the latest issue of Business 2.0; My Golden Rule: 30 Leaders Share their Secrets to Success. I quickly picked it up and dove in. Most of the "golden rules" involved the importance of customers, efficiency, and overall corporate jargon- good stuff; but one saying stood out from the others.
David Neelman, founder and chairman of JetBlue, a young and growing airline said that his Golden Rule is Never, Ever Forget that you are a Servant. This blew me away; here is the chairman from a major airline company who most likely enjoys all of the finer pleasures in life saying that his golden rule involved always being in service to other people. Neelman goes on to say "My goal was to bring back service to air travel. We are all servants in the best sense of the word, which brings amazing personal and professional rewards."
Service is a trend that is gaining a lot of steam here at CCU as well. With the University being situated in the urban area of Price Hill, the service opportunities are abundant. Aside from regular outreach programs such as monthly street feeds ( food outreach to the homeless of Cincinnati), this year will see our second annual Community Service Day; where over 300 students, faculty, and staff will take to the streets of Price Hill, showing the love of Christ in practical ways. Bill Baumgardner, Director of Service Learning here at CCU comments on this year's event "Last year was a great launch for this event and this year we are looking to increase our number of participants, as well as the number of service projects making Community Service Day a more positive impact on the community of Price Hill."
At CCU we do not want to forget who we are as a University and more importantly, what Christ calls us to be as his followers- Servants.
