CCU REACHING OUT TO THE COMMUNITY AND
THE WORLD
Although
Cincinnati Christian University has a long tradition of sending
missionaries to every continent many people in our own neighborhood
of Price Hill have been largely unaware that we exist. Recently
we have begun finding innovative ways to improve our witness among
our immediate neighbors.
Worldfest is an annual culture fair
co-sponsored by CCU’s Education department and Urban and
Intercultural Ministries office. Each spring, groups of student
volunteers put together an international bazaar in the campus
gym with booths featuring the various world cultures represented
right here in Cincinnati. Nearly 300 primary school children from
local public schools attend the event, learning to appreciate
world cultures and seeing Christian college students as positive
role models.
The Cornelius Project gives student
volunteers the chance to help build bridges between different
racial groups in Cincinnati by spending a weekend with a family
of a different racial or ethnic background. The inspiration for
this project comes from Acts 10, in which God helps Peter overcome
his prejudices by sending him into the home of Cornelius, a Gentile
God-fearer.
Servant Evangelism Day, traditionally
known as “Campus Day,” this year will be focused on
doing works of service in the community, rather than simply sprucing
up our own campus. As teams of students, faculty, and staff clean,
paint, plant, and move in a spirit of selfless service, we hope
the community will see glimpses of a Savior who was not afraid
to take up towel and bowl and wash the dirty feet of the world.
These are just a few of the ways we
at CCU are seeking to become contributing members of our community
and positive witnesses for Jesus Christ at home as well as around
the world. For more questions about Urban and Intercultural Ministries
