Dr. Barber was raised in a farming community
in North Eastern Ky. His youth was filled with farm work,
high school sports, and church activities. After graduation
from high school, Tim spent one year in college, then tried
the “work world” for about five years. It was
at the conclusion of this five-year period that he found
himself grounded in his relationship with Christ and called
to full-time Christian service.
After completing an undergraduate degree
at Trevecca Nazarene University and a Masters of Divinity
from Nazarene Theological Seminary, he entered pastoral
ministry where he served as senior pastor for 22½
years in Kentucky and North Carolina.
Tim met his future wife (Peggy French)
while at Trevecca and they were married in 1976. They
have three children Rachel (born in 1982) and twin sons
Michael and Matthew (born in 1984).
Tim’s interest in helping others
drew him into the counseling field and in 2000 he completed
a Master of Arts in Counseling at Cincinnati Bible College
and Seminary. Asbury Theological Seminary conferred the
Doctor of Ministry degree on Tim in 2002. His work at
Asbury has focused on spiritual formation and the integration
of counseling and spirituality continues to be a passion
for him.
Dr. Barber is president and founder
of New Beginnings Christian Counseling Services, Inc.
in Park Hills, KY. He works primarily with couples in
marriage counseling and with issues surrounding male sexual
purity. He joined the staff of Cincinnati Christian University
in 2003 as Clinical Director of the Counseling Center.
He also teaches counseling and pastoral care. Tim is a
member of First Church of Christ, Burlington, KY.
