Education Students At the Statehouse

March 6, 2015

Dr. Danny Ciamarra is passionate that our education students learn the importance of the laws that impact education policy. Last week he led his Critical Issues in Education class to the Ohio Capitol Building to meet and engage with state lawmakers about how these future teachers can make a difference. The focal point of the course is to critically explore the challenges facing the public education system with a goal of discovering possible solutions.

Each student in the class has been working on a research project  about a specific critical issue in education. Topics range from school shootings to the issue of impoverished students engaging in criminal activity. While in Columbus, the students conversed with elected officials to raise their concerns about their issue of study. Dr. Ciamarra believes the trip was successful, stating, “I was so proud of them. They were poised and spoke with conviction and clarity. They asked poignant questions. They were extremely professional, yet critically focused on the problems at hand.”

This trip is just one example of the many hands-on experiences that enhance the CCU educational experience.
