Cincinnati Bible College & Seminary Announces New Name and Development Plans

Cincinnati, OH September 24, 2004- Cincinnati Bible College & Seminary, established in 1924, is celebrating its 80th Anniversary on Price Hill. As part of this historical celebration, President David Faust, announced a new umbrella name at an early morning press conference held in the campus Worship Center, CINCINNATI CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY.

“Today marks the beginning of a new era as we announce the adoption of our new name, Cincinnati Christian University, as an umbrella for the various ministries of this school,” said Faust.

Faust announced one reason for the new name is because the school is growing. “This semester our college, seminary, and School of Continuing Education are serving a total of 970 students, one of the largest enrollments in our history,” continued Faust.

“The main reason for the new name Cincinnati Christian University is simply that we are a purpose-driven school. Our new name tells where we are- and we are proud to be in Cincinnati; who we are- distinctly Christian; what we are- a fully-accredited institution of higher education.” Faust said.

On September 9th, the Board of Trustees unanimously decided to embrace the new corporate name, Cincinnati Christian University, because it will:

  • Create better understanding of our identity in the Greater Cincinnati Area
  • Position our school for future growth
  • Enhance our graduates’ employment opportunities
  • Help our graduates gain access to strategic mission fields
  • Accurately reflect the urban setting of our campus
  • And better represent our school in cross-cultural or international setting where “university” is the common name for an accredited institution of higher education

“The new name was a unanimous decision of the Board of Trustees in an effort to highlight the wonderful opportunities our school offers students wishing to pursue their education in a Christian environment,” said Board Chairman H. David Hale.

“The new name opens doors to extend our ministry through innovative academic programs, creative partnerships and additional locations. Also this year, we have been approved to offer the bachelor of science in education degree leading to licensure for early childhood education in Ohio” Fran Anderson, Director of Marketing/Public Relations was quoted.

It was also announced that Alvin Sanders has been named Director of Ethnic Ministries. Faust said, “this shows our desire to serve people of all races and ethnic backgrounds.”

President David Faust, further announced the beginning of a plan for future development of the school’s campus. Along with the development of new student housing and a student activity center he said he and his wife, Candy Faust, had made a personal decision to sell their house in Green Township and build a new house in Price Hill on the edge of campus. “We are making this move to demonstrate our commitment to the school and its mission and to demonstrate our commitment to this urban community in Price Hill,” stated Faust. The university ultimately will own the house upon Faust’s retirement or relocation. Executive Vice President of Operations, J. Edward Rauch, said “even with all the excitement of the new umbrella name this announcement by Dave and Candy has been a tremendous motivating factor to all our Faculty, Staff, Trustees and Alumni.”

The announcement garnered this reaction from Cincinnati Mayor Charles Luken, “As Mayor, I welcome the news that Cincinnati will now have another institution of higher education with University status. Cincinnati Bible College & Seminary has served the Greater Cincinnati Area for 80 years and we look forward to having Cincinnati Christian University for another 80 years. I am excited about the announcement of CCU’s plans in Price Hill.”
