Born on August 8, 1928 in Anderson, Indiana, R.J.’s moved with his family to Georgetown, Kentucky when he was a junior in high school. He came to Christ as a senior in high school. He attended a revival at the Minorsville Christian Church in Kentucky and moved to make a decision for the Lord. That night, R.J. was baptized in a creek across the road from the church and committed his life to preaching the gospel. He would spend the next 55 years proclaiming Christ in located ministries.
R. J. attended Cincinnati Christian University where he met his wife Patsy Gibson (who passed in 2013). He graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Sacred Literature. Together, they started churches in Michigan and Texas. While in San Antonio, he also served as President of Southern Christian College (he later led the college to merge with Dallas Christian College). In 1965, R. J. accepted an invitation to return to his alma mater where he taught ministry students for 35 years. While a faculty member, he ministered with the Sherman Church of Christ (Kentucky) for 24 years and at Elsmere Church of Christ (Kentucky) for 18 years. R.J. went home to be with the Lord on September 26, 2015.
R. J. is survived by his daughters Vicky (Steve) Kehrer and Pam (Jay) Link, son Jay (Lisa) Kidwell, 11 grand children and 16 great grand children. All his children and grandchildren continue to be active in the work of the kingdom. R.J.’s work as a minister of the gospel will live on throughout eternity.
Services will be held on October, 1, 2015 at the Elsmere Church of Christ (124 Carlisle, Elsmere, KY 41018). Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Celebration Service at 11:00 a.m. A graveside service will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be sent to Cincinnati Christian University.
